Valentines fyi

I am not playing the valentine’s game this year. Just don’t have the energy to be bothered one way or the other. I have seen the post box meme go by and it reminded me of the awful valentines day stuff in elementary school so no one is getting anything from me. Not that I don’t love ya, just not playing this game this year.

Funny thing though. I might be meeting a guy from OKCupid tomorrow. He was out of town and that happens to be the day he has free.

Far as I am concerned, it is just another day in Feb and maybe I can get some cheap candy the day after. Sort of like Easter. :)

  1. From my friend,

    WHEREAS, the Feast of St. Valentine has repeatedly proven offensive or inconvenient to the majority of the American People;

    WHEREAS, the Feast of St. Valentine has been demonstrably debased by unseemly commercialism and rapacious greed;

    WHEREAS, all attempts to celebrate the Feast of St. Valentine in the common way debase the true arts of love;

    WHEREAS, the above factors in combination have continued to cause strife, discomfort and misery in the Greater Portion of the American People;

    WHEREAS, the activities surrounding the Feast of St. Valentine debase and shame the American People;

    AND WHEREAS, a more appropriate and honorable claim to that day exists;

    NOW, THEREFORE, we decree that the celebration of the Feast of St. Valentine be hereby ABOLISHED;

    AND WE FURTHER ORDER that the Fourteenth Day of February each year be rededicated to the celebration of the birth of Joshua, Norton I, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico, who, by the grace of God, ruled his people wisely and well for more than twenty years.

  2. I was thinking about our elementary school Valentine’s Days yesterday – and I’ve finally reached the point where I can look back on it and laugh.

    I remember I always made one out for you – even if we were in different classes and I had to hand it to you rather than put it in your heart-bedecked paper bag. You were a damn good friend, even then, you know.

    That said – I was thinking about it because at Kira’s school, they just tell you to bring X number of cards with her name signed on them… this is common practice everywhere now – everyone gets a valentine, no special cards for those you like and ‘lame’ cards for those you don’t.
    No Lisa Simpson/Ralph Wiggums “I choo-choo-choose you” issues.

    Yeah, it’s a kinder, more sensative, more touchy-feely world. Except for the part where the kids still tell each other 20 minutes later “I don’t like you.” :\

    I’m not playing the V-Day meme either this year. So sue me. I’m up to my ass in pink and red and hearty stuff in real life for the kiddo and her class (official party was today, secondary party tomorrow, b/c there’s fewer kids on Thursdays – I’m volunteered) and I just don’t feel like being all sparkly-glowy online.

    But you know what? If I were sending valentines this year, you’d be top of the list, just like you always were in grade school!! :)

    ((((hug))))

  3. Yup I avoided that meme too got the husband a card and s few chocolates he got me a cookbook.

    He hates V-day and I’m indifferent, (After almost 8 years of my ex never even getting me a card when I went all out burned me of it pretty thoughly.)
