50 beautiful thoughts to bring a smile

My friend yndy sent me the following in an email and it seemed to be something to share on LJ.
She got it from her friend Ric.

After the list of 50 things are my reactions. So the first part is a nice thing running around the net, the second part is a TheGina thing.

The Gina’s responses to 50 thoughts

1. Falling in love.
Sucks. It has good parts that hurt and bad parts that really hurt. But it still fills a need/want/desire. One of those “can’t live with it, can’t live without it” things.

2. Laughing so hard your face hurts.
Don’t like the face hurt thing but love the reasons for it. OK, it is worth it.

3. A hot shower.
Like warm showers. Starting to like them hotter but now the water runs out.

4. No lines at the supermarket.
Thank god, that is one less hassle. I use to like going grocery shopping.

5. A special glance.
This one’s nice

6. Getting mail.
Good and Bad. Junk mail/Bills=bad. Letters/Info=Good but sometimes require a response=bad. Don’t make me think about it or it adds up as bad.

7. Taking a drive on a pretty road.
This one hit me as actually nice, even though as I think on it more, I don’t like driving. Still adds up to good since the vision is luscious greenery dripping over the road. Very pretty.

8. Hearing your favorite song on the radio.
Got me thinking to the point where I don’t listen to the radio anymore. I have all my music on the Mac and can listen to whatever song I want. I like that.

9. Lying in bed listening to the rain outside.
*sigh* Wonderful.

10. Hot towels fresh out of the dryer.
I like wrapping up my friends that are cold in those warm towels.

11. Finding the sweater you want is on sale for half price.
Score!!! *replace sweater with anything* This is a highlight in my life.

12. Chocolate milkshake (or vanilla!) (or strawberry).
Eggnog!! *ignoring the sugar problem*

13. A long distance phone call.
Good and bad. Nice to talk to friends from far away but it also reminds me how I miss them and how I can’t really have them in my life. And then there is the left over angst from growing up about the price of the call.

14. A bubble bath.
Might be nice if I ever had a tub big enough.

15. Giggling.
I like this. I like this a lot. Go ahead, make me giggle.

16. A good conversation.
Very good. I like it when the conversation stretches my brain and I can actually access and use info in my head. Like one recently where I got to geek with a father of a friend about heat transfer. As a “graphic artist” (powerpoint jockey) I don’t get to geek out as often as I would like.

17. The beach.
Beach is ok. Like forest better.

18. Finding a $20 bill in your coat from last winter.
Score!!! I like found money. So much so, I plant it so I can find it later after I have forgotten about it.

19. Laughing at yourself.
I have liked this in the past. It is a little harder these days because I am too serious.

20. Midnight phone calls that last for hours.
Mostly bad. Midnight is late and as much as I want to talk and don’t want to hang up, those long phone calls usually make me feel bad afterwards.

21. Running through sprinklers.
Picturing little kids running through sprinklers, picturing me as a little kid, picturing me as a little kid running through sprinklers. *sign* that’s nice. Now picture me as an adult playing in a fountain. That’s nice too.

22. Laughing for absolutely no reason at all.
Nice

23. Having someone tell you that you’re beautiful.
Aw gee, that’s swell.

24. Laughing at an inside joke.
I really like this one too. I can belong and be special at the same time.

25. Friends.
Mostly good. Sometimes hard to feel that.

26. Accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about you.
Bouncy bouncy.

27. Waking up and realizing you still have a few hours left to sleep.
Love this. Use to set my alarm to go off an hour early so I could reset it and have the joy of going back to sleep.

28. Your first kiss (either the very first or with a new partner).
*smile* No comment

29. Making new friends or spending time with old ones.
Again, mostly good.

30. Playing with a new puppy.
Yes please. I could use a puppy fix. Or a pomeranian fix.

31. Having someone play with your hair.
Melt. I adore this.

32. Sweet dreams.
Nice

33. Hot chocolate.
MMmmmm Land of Lakes Chocolate Mocha. *once again, ignoring the sugar problem or embracing the sugar effects and paying the price later*

34. Road trips with friends.
Not sure on this one. Been too long, contains too much travel, not enough info for a real feelings reading.

35. Swinging on swings.
Nice

36. Wrapping presents under the Christmas tree while eating cookies and drinking your favorite hot toddy.
Eggnog!!

37. Song lyrics printed inside your new CD so you can sing along without feeling stupid.
Having the lyrics so you know what they are really singing=Good.

38. Going to a really good concert.
Been years but mostly good.

39. Making eye contact with a cute stranger.
*smile* Nice

40. Winning a really competitive game.
Not good. If I win, I am a GOD!! and I feel sorry for the losers. If I loose, I am scum. Playing a not-competitive game is good.

41. Making chocolate chip cookies.
Eh, does nothing either way for me.

42. Having your friends send you home-made cookies.
Having a friend make me anything that I can actually enjoy is wonderful. I like feeling taken care of.

43. Spending time with close friends.
Good. Needed. Sometimes hard to get around to doing.

44. Seeing smiles and hearing laughter from your friends.
Wonderful. I love seeing friends happy and making people smile.

45. Holding hands with someone you care about.
Good. Almost always good.

46. Running into an old friend and realizing that some things good or(bad)never change.
Good.

47. Riding the best roller coasters over and over.
Eh, in theory good but the problem with motion sickness has taken this away from me so it has gone over to the bad side.

48. Watching the expression on someone’s face as they open a much desired present from you.
I love it when I do good in getting a gift for someone. It doesn’t even have to be attached to me. I just want them to have it.

49. Watching the sunrise.
Good. Not going to happen because it is too early (and too late for staying up for it) but still falls on the good side.

50. Getting out of bed every morning and being grateful for another beautiful day.
Can’t say this comes up for me. I can be grateful for things happening in a day but I facing another day is not something I am grateful for.

Found I was snarky with the beginning items but seemed to get more positive as it went along. I wonder if my reactions would have been that different if they came in a different order. The last one was a bit of a dud for me. But as anyone who knows me, that is just me and my outlook on life and it should be a surprise.

The rain was unexpected so I didn’t plan for it, but I had to get home from the bus, so, ah well. At least it wasn’t pouring and was just raining.

  1. Love your reactions even better than the list…
I had some mixed ones too – I just skipped over those and focused on the ‘mmmm-good!’ ones.
Maybe we should make our own lists? :)

    hugs to you!
