Westercon was …interesting…
I seem to have gotten to the point where I can enjoy parts of con again and my body doesn’t feel the need to get sick to protect myself. I have noticed a trend that for the first day or so of the con, I don’t want to be there. I need to be distracted almost all of the time to keep from going through the thought process of I can go home and it would be more interesting and I want to. After that, I seem to be able to enjoy my environment more and the people I am around.
I still don’t like the parties but that is where I end up enjoying myself a lot. All I have to get through is the uncomfortable feelings and then I have the opportunity to make connections with other con goers.
It was very nice to hang with many con friends. A large number of the LA crowd I enjoy was at this convention. Even the typical politics were enjoyable. I learned some more of things going on behind the scene and really it was the deepest belly laugh I have had in a long time. Things look so tied up in knots all you can do it laugh and wait to see how it turns out. I met some more people and had a very fan girl moment. I am very impressed with the flyer/card for FurCon 2008 and managed to meet the guy that did the design for the website at the Further Confusion party. He design work was used on the card and I proceeded to pump him for information on his process of design. Then I asked for him to sign a card for me. I actually wanted his signature more than any GoH at a con. Not really sure why but it was important to me so I went with it. I would also like the autograph from the person that actually put the card together. Like I said, I was impressed. It should have looked cheesy but it hit the balance so well it really pulled it off. I have contact info and I hope to use it.
I also collected a lot of information that will be useful to Baycon 2008 Publications to give to other people and lots of ideas to share. This seems to be my current entertainment and I am hoping to milk it for all it is worth while I am still enthusiastic.
The major good news is that I have a job offer from a transportation company in SF. It is a very nice job offer. I would work temp to perm for 10 weeks since this is through Visuals. It is very important to them that this be taken as a serious offer because they don’t want to waste time with someone that wouldn’t be interested in full time work so they have given me what would be the offer will be in 10 weeks. I would be working 55% of the time in Word and 45% of the time in InDesign and such for collateral. I do have to say that the product makes the financial world look colorful and decorative but that is ok. I seem to be keeping my more design side entertained with all this volunteer stuff I am doing. I have said yes to the offer and just need the confirmation that we are a go. I am assuming we are and I will start July 9th.
Weeeeeee. Useful work, structure and money again. This is good.
There are other good things but those are the biggies.
I seem to have gotten to the point where I can enjoy parts of con again (snip)

It was really nice to hang out with you in ConOps *S* and well since my memory kicked in
and I remembered that we had actually met before last Sunday, kinda hoping to see
you at the wrap up BBQ so we can talk some more.
I was reviewing some old posts and read over this again. I didn’t get to hang or even say hi at the BBQ. I was dealing with a lot of drama that weekend and pretty much didn’t stop moving for hours and by that time you had left. Sorry about that. I had meant to at least say hi and I was sorry to have missed you.
*Does Happy Dance in your honor*
Congrats on the job. Hope everything works out well.
The BayCon ’08 book should be great The theme is so you.
Whoo! congrats!
Great seeing you at Con, you seemed much more relaxed.
Congrats on the new job!
and LMB? Did you get to meet LMB?
Didn’t really meet LMB because I don’t really have anything to say to her and I don’t like being just another fan girl with “Gee I really like your work.”
I was at her Q&A panel and it was a lot like her book signings in town. Sandpanther has a lot more info from those than I do. I got a headache from the Leather Pants of Evil (TM) that I was wearing and I missed some of her panel with other authors when I went to change.
She is a wonderful lady and I have been conviced I don’t want her at any convention because that interupts her writing and I rather have more writing.
We have two more Sharing Knife stories coming up and then a Mile’s one. She doesn’t know what that one will be about because she is currently stuck in the Sharing Knife universe.
