I’m Wilting – It is too warm!

I am functional in our little warm up here in the bay area but I don’t feel good. I am at a job in the mission district in SF and there is AC and no ice for the water. I have to walk 8 blks from bart to the loft to work and back again. I brought an umbrella because shade is lacking on the walk.

I do know I am having a hard time with my own smell. I sweat during and after the walk. I sweat when I sleep (this has been going on for months so it isn’t heat related). It is bad enough that when I wake up in the middle of the night, I have to switch sides of the bed because where I am laying is now damp. I leave the covers pulled back in the morning so it can dry out so I can sleep the next night. With the heat, I can be sitting at home doing nothing and sweating. Taking a shower is still a major deal (from the depression or the recovering from surgery, I don’t know) so it is an every other day thing and that isn’t helping. So I am generating smell that I am very unused to and the heat is making it more potent.

But I am functional. I am working and earning money. I don’t know if I am hosed (dead/exhausted/tired) because it is too hot or if because I have finally slowed down from the convention madness and hit a wall. I am capable of short spurts of energy and productivity but lacking in motivation and ability to maintain the energy level.

Can I have my cold SF Summer back now?
Sad thing is that this isn’t even the hottest it is going to get around here.

  1. For the scent problem I recommend Tom’s of Maine deodorizing body spray. Sadly, they seem to have discontinued it but I bought some at Elephant Pharm just a couple of weeks ago so it is probably still findable. I’ve been in the habit of not wearing deodorant for years because it all felt sticky or smelled too strong. But I really like lavendar scent and this stuff is light and can be applied anywhere, not just underarms.

Hmm, I suppose I should buy a few bottles and stock up before I can’t get it anymore :)

  2. or for an unscented option, try a witch hazel wipe. They sell them prepackaged, or you can just buy a bottle of witch hazel and use cotton pads. Basically, it’s a alcohol based thing, so it kills all the bacteria and leaves you feeling cool and fresh. Saves my butt at Ren Faire in the summer – freshen the face, the pits, the nethers and the feet and I’m good for another day.
