I normally don’t like the concept of Dating. The getting to know someone while doing events, like eating or seeing movies. I find it very uncomfortable. I like doing things with friends and then I find myself romantically involved with one of my friends. I know the guy already relatively well and then we work on getting to know each other very well.
So it was really odd when I heard myself say the other day, “That is why I like dating.” I was showing pictures to a friend of mine and I had some of outfits I would wear out on dates. I have a lot of clothes that I can’t wear to work. I can wear them to parties or dancing or a con. They are dress to impress type of things. Some of these things aren’t good for dancing or a lot of walking, like over the knee high heel boots. But they would be great on a date.
So, dates are considered costume opportunities. A time when things from my closet that don’t get out much get a chance to show off.
It made me realize any event gets a +2 if it is a costume event.
I consider almost any social event a “costuming” opportunity, glad I am not the only one.
Aren’t you the one that posted you aren’t wearing a costume for Halloween until Halloween is on a weekend again? I did 5 costumes for Halloween this year, only one on Halloween.
I do treat most every event as a “costuming” opportunity, including a normal day at work. It is just the ones where I can wear my “cool” clothes and not seem out of place that I really look forward to.
This weekend it looks like three of us are wearing Angel outfits to Gaskells. Weee
This year was not a good Halloween for me. Sigh. Normally I do take advantage of it to wear a costume or two. Sadly my current job does not encourage costumes in the workplace. Hence my rather bitter “not till it’s a weekend” LJ entry.
I just meant that I too consider social events, whether it be a LARP where costuming is expected or merely a party at a friends house, a chance to “costume”.
“Gaskells Angels”, make sure the three of you do that Charlies Angels pose.
My response to no costumes at work is to wear one that they can’t really have issues with. Last year I was a 40s secretary. http://nanidesuka.com/thegina/gallery45/pages/CIMG4518.htm This year, I dressed in all plaid, 8-13 I think. I just took off a few layers and it wasn’t so bad at work. Everyone else that dressed did a version of one co-worker.
Also, I enjoy the entire season. There is usually so many Halloween activities, that I don’t need to dress on the actual day, especially when it doesn’t hit the weekend. But a lot of those events lately are dances/balls.
The Charlies Angels pose is pretty ubiquitous for the three of us. We did do it last night even though I was the only one with wings, we were all in white. We also did a pose with prayer hands that I think looks pretty good. Someday I will get those pictures up. If you look around this site, you will see many of the “Charlies Angels” posed pics. http://nanidesuka.com/thegina/2004.html (I am working on getting 2005 up, it has not been that good of a year)
We also did a version when working LosCon. Our boss was Alex and we did a shot of Alex’s Angels. http://nanidesuka.com/thegina/gallery32/CIMG0939.jpg
Naw, I don’t like to play dress up, what would ever give you that idea. :}

Love the expression on Alex’s face. I’d forgotten that Melissa totally vamped for the camera.
I look like crap, but that’s par for the course. I’ve never been photogenic.
