There is a meme running around where people on your friends list tell you something about themselves. I have been answering quite a few and feel I need to come up with something new that people don’t know about me each time. This last one on corva‘s journal has a story attached to it. One of the reasons I started on LJ was to share my stock of stories with more people so here is one.
This is how my Pony got turned into a TV.
I use to own a pony named Tinkerbell. I was somewhere around 4-7. I can barely remember it. I was convinced it was a horse until a few years ago when I saw a picture with my Grandfather on it with his legs touching the ground. In 1976, my pony got turned into a TV. My Grandfather had sold the pony and the $100 sat in the bank account until I added a $20 birthday gift to it to buy a portable 12″ black and white TV. I loved this TV. It was available to pull under the covers weekday mornings to watch Battle of the Planets at 6:00 am. I would then go back to sleep for half an hour until my mom woke me up for school.
As a side note, Sat mornings I got to watch Battle of the Planets in the Big Family Color TV at 11am. I couldn’t stand the bright colors, “What? the phoenix is red and blue, god, Princess looks bad in pink,” that I would mess with the dials to make it black and white which is “proper.”
I still have this ’76 TV. It keeps turning into big color tvs. I will be satisfied with my little B&W and a boyfriend will get frustrated with it. He will bring a color tv over and somehow it ends up being mine. I have gotten 4 color tvs this way. OK, the last one is technically due to him breaking the knob off the previous one but still it is another color tv from a boyfriend who wants a better tv to watch. Sometimes I wonder if I will be able to go back to my little B&W TV and still be happy with it. It has been 15 years and 4 boyfriends that I have not had to watch it.
Thank you, that was grand! Now I just need to see the visual stream running silently behind you as you tell this story!…maybe I spent too much time a gallery opening in NYC when I was small…
