Boy, did I have a very full social weekend. I am rather behind in my posting of social events, so I am going to start with the backlog before diving into the stories from this weekend.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Benihana (the Japanese steakhouse) in Burlingame with Kristil, Crystal, Kevin, Dorothy, Paul, Karen and Kevin. While we were there, Happy Birthday was sung 11 times. Must be a favorite place for birthday parties. Do I know how to pick them or what?
That was Monday. The next Friday, I went to see Cirque with sandpanther for our birthdays. I really enjoyed the show and the chance to catch up with her and find out about this crazy rally stuff she has dived into.
The next Monday, I put together a High Tea for the party at work. Normally the company buys a cake for someone’s birthday. Since I can’t do sugar, it has been a struggle each year to do something different for me. Gosh, can you imagine, me needing something *special*. I was very frustrated and angry about how things were handled last year and that fueled the event for this year. I had 3 dozen scones (pumpkin-cranberry, lemon-current, plain english) with mock-Devonshire cream (Since many people asked for the recipe: 4oz cream cheese, 1/4-1/3 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1-1/2 teaspoon fructose or 2-1/4 teaspoons sugar, whip, add more cream cheese or whipping cream to get desired consistence, yummy. See, I can put recipes in my LJ posts too), four types of finger sandwiches (curry chicken salad, savory egg salad, cucumber, brie with green apple), 3 dozen petite-fours/tartlets (Company paid for these) and lots of tea. I borrowed a silver tea set, a spare tea pot and tiered tray from the Danger Twins, another pot from another co-worker and brought in my silver tray for the sandwiches. I spent most of the weekend before preparing and making food. I think I was up to 6 grocery store runs by the end of it. The whole thing was wonderful and made up for last year marvelously.
That Friday was ChantWave with Crystal. Interesting but frustrating as well.
Saturday, was the 9th annual Pit O’Scorpions. A group of friends of mine has many Scorpio, November and near November birthdays. Once someone stated that put us all in a room, if we don’t kill each other, we will take over the world. Out of this grew a group birthday party that has been going on for years. Dorothy has been wonderful hosting this each year and making special deserts for all of us. Fun was had by many.
Pictures are available for all these events, I just haven’t had time to make pages for them yet. I dread using the PhotoShop versions but soon I may have to resort to that.
